"Now listen! You will become silent and unable to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time."
Luke 1:20
Those words come from Gabriel as he speaks to Zechariah. Gabriel has just told Zechariah, a priest, that he and his wife would have a son. Zechariah simply asked how, pointing out the earthly limitations of that prophecy... and Gabriel silenced Zechriah from then till the eighth day of John's life... all for doubt.
Zechariah, like any husband, had prayed for a son. He wanted to be a father, and was waiting for that time to come in his life. He was serving and active, and he was performing all his duties. But when his prayer was answered, he doubted... why? Because he is human.
And make certain you get this point, friends, that he didn't doubt some seemingly random road sign or phone call. He doubted the Archangel Gabriel, physically present before Zechariah's own eyes. He looked into the face of the one who will blow the trumpet, and asked "How?" One of two things is true here: either Zechariah is extremely bold, and challenges the authority of the angel, not accepting who he says he is, or Zechariah cannot help himself with certain things, because he is of flesh. I think you know which is the truth.
God is God, friends, and when He makes a promise, it is real and it is permanent. It will be just as He says it will, and if He decides to send Gabriel to tell you about it, then you need to be faithful and accept the provision with joy! Or you can wander around mute, unable to minister and witness and speak to the power of the blessing coming, because you had doubts about the power that exudes from the Throne.
Don't be "that" believer... you believe in Him, so BELIEVE HIM!!! And even though Gabriel pointed out that his words would be fulfilled "in their proper time," and that was almost a year later, they were fulfilled. So take heart, know that the promises made to all Christians are true for you and all believers, encourage another in this powerful truth and honor the Lord in doing so!
God bless you all!!!
